AMES — Former Charles City and Northern Iowa track standout Greg Offerman was formally inducted into the Iowa Association of Track Coaches Hall of Fame during the annual IATC Banquet on Saturday.

During his CC track career at Charles City, Offerman won seven individual state titles, but it was his eighth and final state title that really made a difference for the program as a whole.

As anchor to the 4-by-400 relay, Offerman helped the Comets win the race while enabling them to edge Wahlert 68-64 for the 2005 Class 3A state title  — the only track championship for Charles City.

Offerman’s other state titles include three in the 200-meter dash (2003, 2004 and 2005), three more in the 400 hurdles (2003, 2004 and 2005), and one in the 400 dash (2005).

Offerman still holds Class 3A records in the 400 hurdles (51.35, which has him ranked 3rd amid all classes) and 400 dash (48.11).

Offerman was undefeated in the 400 hurdles in high school during a three-year span.

Offerman also has the distinction of being the only high school athlete to win three 400 hurdle titles at the Drake Relays (2003, 2004 and 2005). Also in 2005, Offerman helped Charles City win its only Drake Relays 1,600 medley relay title while running a 46.4 400 split as announced from the Drake press box.

The recipient of the Drake Relays Outstanding Boy Athlete Award and the Iowa Gatorade Boy Track Athlete of the Year in 2005, Offerman continued his track career at the University of Northern Iowa where he was a 10-time All-Missouri Valley Conference runner, and NCAA Outdoor National Championship qualifier in the 400 hurdles and 4-by-400 relay.

Offerman is the Associate Director of Compliance within the University of Wisconsin’s athletic department.
