OSAGE — Down 2 games to 6 in her pro set No. 2 singles match against Alexa Maakestad, Charles City sophomore Jodie Sindlinger rallied back to win, 10-8, for the Comets’ lone varsity victory in an away match against Osage.

“She really fought back hard,” Charles City coach Brian Parrott said.

Later, Sindlinger found herself in an inadvertent 1-on-2 standoff against the Green Devils No. 2 doubles team of Klaire Chisholm and Taylor Adams.

When Sindlinger’s doubles partner Amy Boggess went all out to return a shot along the baseline, her foot got caught under the fence forcing Sindlinger to play momentarily without her.

Sindlinger eventually won the point, but Chisholm and Adams were not to be denied and won the match, 8-2.

Chisholm also defeated Charles City senior Morgan Kellogg, 10-3, in No. 1 singles.

Kellogg and Emilee Bilharz forced a tie-breaker when facing the Green Devil tandem of Maakestad and Hailey Gentz in No. 1 doubles, but the latter team prevailed, 9-8 (10-4).

In the other varsity matches, Gentz defeated Boggess (10-1) in No. 3 singles, Sarah Jenkins defeated Bilharz (10-5) in No. 4 singles, AnnMarie Milbrant defeated Emma Heidebrink (10-1)  in No. 5 singles, Adams defeated Sandra Bontemps in No. 6 singles, and Milbrandt and Jenkins defeated Heidebrink and Taylor Walters (8-0) in No. 3 doubles.

In junior varsity play, Charles City won 14 matches to Osage’s 10.

“They also did well against Mason City,” Parrott said of his junior varsity, “so there’s some good news there.”
